I've seen 70 inches of snowfall in October about ten years ago. Having said that, each year is a little different. But these and other similar places would be an hour's drive from Park City. You may find some options for wintry walks in places like Mill Creek Canyon and maybe even tubing in Big Cottonwood Canyon at Jordan Pines, if you had your own gear. You could take a ride on the Snowbird for Rocky Mountain views from 11,000 feet. But since it's the beginning of the season, all of the rocks and ground cover need to be significantly buried for horse drawn sleighs, tubing etc. In November, some of the ski resorts (Snowbird and Brighton and maybe Park City) will have limited terrain open, maybe 2-4 lifts. Looking out of my front window, I can see snow in the mountains right now (and even drive to it). It's snowed already this year above 8,000 feet. Plenty of things to do though.Īnd just to be clear, you will see snow. Moab is great and would be fun, but will be warmer than Park City. Hiking into the hoodoos would likely be off the table. If it does snow, you won't be able to see much of the park, other than the viewpoints. Montage, St Regis, Main & Sky, etc.īryce is a fairly small park with no real town to speak of outside of the park. Could be snow for tubing, but unlikely Gorgoza or Soldier Hollow would be open that soon.įor hotels with spas, many in Park City will have this amenity. Would be a fun night to be in town.Īs for the snow, it is very early in the season. This would be the SLC equivalent of Bryant Park in NYC. There will also be ice skating at Galivan Center. It's one of the best light displays in the country. It will be a festive time to be in Salt Lake, when they turn on all of the downtown Christmas lights, including those at Temple Square. Then head back to SLC on Friday, so you'll be closer to the airport. Then head to Bryce on Thanksgiving itself. The other option would be to drive immediately to Park City on Monday. And I wouldn't recommend driving South on I-15 until after 7:00 anyway. Driving to Spanish Fork will only decrease Tuesday's drive by an hour, so it's not imperative to get there on Monday night. After a long flight, you may just want to get dinner, drinks, and relax. I would just stay Monday night in Salt Lake where you'll find better restaurants and things to do than you will Spanish Fork. Bryce is at a higher elevation than Park City. Double check for lodging availability at Bryce. Park City Mountain ski resort will be open. Thanksgiving is still very early for snow accumulation. There may or may not be enough snow on the ground in the Park City area for sleigh rides, tubing. If there's snow, snow shoeing is an option. How much hiking you can do will depend on the conditions of the trails when you arrive. ![]() This is about a 4.5 hour drive, no stops. Tuesday - Up early and drive to Bryce Canyon. You will probably want to have dinner somewhere in SLC and then head to Spanish Fork after 6 pm. But you are arriving right when the heavy rush hour traffic starts. Monday - Drive as far as Spanish Fork UT, to get some miles behind you for the next day. If you want to go to Bryce, here's a suggested plan.
